Being a mum and having a daughter ride from a very young age, for her to be safe, confident & have fun on a pony she adored that was honest & trustworthy was very important to me.  We were very fortunate and had the 'perfect pony', who continued to teach other young ones to ride when our daughter outgrew him.
He still lives with us today and will celebrate his 24th birthday in October 2008.

So what does this have to do with a Dartmoor?

I discovered Dartmoor ponies on a UK website eight years ago, & here were these fantastic little ponies, young riders aboard with big smiles on their faces participating in a variety of equestrian activities including top level showing at Olympia & Wembley. My mind wandered back to our 'perfect pony' & my first impression of the Dartmoor pony was...

WOW!  How great are these ponies - true child's ponies!

Of course I had to have one didn't I ?

Due to the fact that they are a 'rare' breed (recognised by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust) & that there were very few of the type I was after in Australia, it was twelve months before our first Dartmoor pony was purchased.  Through very careful selection, we have now completed, although quite small, our Dartmoor herd.  Our bloodlines are based on the famous Shilstone Rocks Stud, arguably one of the most renown & successful Dartmoor studs in the UK, and we are very fortunate to have a son of their most prolific sire Shilstone Rocks D - Day (Dec).

As well as our purebreds, we also breed partbreds.  The maximum height allowable for a purebred Dartmoor pony is 12.2hh, therefore outcrossing to the riding pony or small thoroughbred, allows for some extra height as well as maintaining the endearing temperament the Dartmoor pony is known for.

With our stud already having riding ponies & galloways, the Dartmoor pony was the perfect inclusion to our stud to offer a variety of competitive show stock from Leading Rein Ponies to Hunter Ponies & beyond ...
